Update Oct 22Chat that gets your attention

What's new

Everything that's changed in the city, newest first.

Version 1.15.2

Chat that gets your attention

Chat now tells you when something happens, especially when someone @mentions you.

New

  • Type @ and a player's name to mention them. They get a highlighted message, a chime, and a note in their events even if they were offline.
  • While chat is folded away, new messages pop up in a small preview, the Chat button shows how many you missed, and so does your browser tab.
  • Use the bell in the chat bar to choose all messages, mentions only, or nothing. You can also turn on desktop alerts for mentions while you're in another tab.

Improved

  • Refill buttons for nerve, energy and awake right on the crime and gym pages and next to your bars.
Version 1.15.1

Point packs and a new home

Mobster Story now lives at mobsterstory.com, and you can buy point packs.

New

  • Mobster Story has moved to www.mobsterstory.com. Old links still work and bring you here.
  • Point packs: get points on the Points page, with bonus points on the bigger packs. Checkout is handled securely by Stripe, and the game stays free to play.
Version 1.15.0

Turf war

Gangs now fight over the city, district by district, every week.

New

  • Turf war: gang members build influence in the district they're in by pulling crimes, winning fights and mugging. Beating another gang's member counts the most.
  • Every Monday the top gang in each district takes it, if it has at least 100 influence. The gang running a district gets 5% of every crime pulled there, paid into its vault, and nobody's take is cut.
  • See who runs what, and who's closing in, on the Gangs page. Your district page shows who runs it, and each gang's page shows its turf.
Version 1.14.0

Scores to settle

A hit list, bounties, and a catch-up when you come back.

New

  • The hit list: anyone who beats you up or mugs you goes on it for 48 hours. Put them in hospital in that time for half again the usual exp.
  • Bounties: put a price on someone's head (from $5,000, plus a 10% fee). Whoever puts them in hospital collects. You can stay anonymous.
  • While you were away: your home page now opens with what happened since your last visit, and what's waiting for you.
  • After a day away you can get one email with what you missed. Turn it off any time in Settings.
Version 1.13.0

A new front door

New log-in and sign-up pages, a tighter front page, and email verification.

New

  • Brand new log-in and sign-up pages, with the city at night and what you start with.
  • Email verification: new mobsters get a link to confirm their email. Until it's clicked you can play, but not chat or send cash and items to other players.

Improved

  • The front page is shorter and up to date, with gangs and the casino, and says clearly that the game is in alpha.
Version 1.12.0

The casino opens (alpha)

The casino is open with 50/50, slots and roulette. Mobster Story is in alpha.

New

  • The casino: 50/50 against other players in cash or points, plus slots and roulette against the house. House bets are capped by level.
  • Mobster Story is officially in alpha: it's still being built, balance isn't final and you may hit the odd bug. Nothing costs real money yet.

Improved

  • A shorter menu: the places you use every visit stay there, and everything else is on your district page under Places to go.
Version 1.11.0

Gangs, and a better first day

Start or join a gang, and new mobsters get a getting-started list with rewards. Everyone gets a daily reward.

New

  • Gangs: start one at level 10 for $50,000, or ask to join one. A boss, capos and soldiers, up to 15 members, a shared vault and a gang log.
  • Gang members can't attack or mug each other. Gangs rank by respect: every member's level plus a point for every ten fights won.
  • Getting started: seven first steps on your home page, each with a reward, and a bonus for finishing them all.
  • Daily reward: claim it every day for a bigger one, up to day 7. Miss a day and it starts again.

Removed

  • The "soon" places on the district page are gone until they're ready.
Version 1.10.1

A look around the city

New artwork for the hospital, the jail and every place you visit, and a new hospital and jail.

New

  • Artwork for the hospital, jail, gym, bank, crime, downtown, drug running, garage, houses and land pages.

Improved

  • The hospital and jail are rebuilt: a live countdown for everyone inside, how long you have left, and a button to pay your way out early.
Version 1.10.0

The car & home market

Sell your cars, jets and homes to other players for more than the dealer pays.

New

  • The car & home market: buy cars, jets and homes from other players for less than new. Find it under Word on the street.
  • List a car from your garage or your home from Houses. You set the price, anywhere between what the dealer or broker pays and the price new.
  • A listed car leaves your garage until it sells. A listed home stays yours to live in until someone buys it; then you move to a rented room.

Improved

  • In a hurry? The dealer still buys cars for half, and the broker buys homes for three quarters of what you paid.
Version 1.9.0

Your garage

Pick the car you drive, keep the rest in your garage, and choose your ride for every run.

New

  • Garage in the menu: every car and jet you own, which one you drive or fly, and what each carries on a drug run.
  • Own more than one car and you pick which you drive. Trips and drug-run cargo use the car you drive, not your best one.
  • Every car beyond the one you drive needs a garage space at home. A rented room or studio has none; bigger homes hold more. Jets wait at the hangar.
  • Sell a car or jet back from your garage for half what it cost.
Version 1.8.1

Where you rank

Stats stay private. Respected Mobsters see where they rank in each one.

New

  • Your home page shows where you rank in strength, speed, defense and all stats together, and how much more it takes to pass the next mobster up. A Respected Mobster perk.

Improved

  • Nobody sees anyone else's stats any more: the district page and the hall of fame no longer show them.
  • The menu shows your season tier and how long your Respected Mobster time has left.
Version 1.8.0

City chat

Talk to the whole city in a chat window you can drag anywhere or fold away.

New

  • City chat: a floating window you can drag anywhere on the page and hide to a button that counts new messages.
  • Read and agree to the chat rules before your first message. One message every 4 seconds.
  • Swearing, slurs, links and spam are stopped before anyone sees them. Strike 1 is a warning, strike 2 shuts chat for 3 days, strike 3 is a ban from chat for good.

Improved

  • Pages switch faster: half the database work per page and a bar that shows the click landed right away.
Version 1.7.0

Season 1: Neon Nights

The first season pass: 50 tiers of rewards for playing, free for everyone, with a premium track.

New

  • Season pass: crimes, training, fights, deals, harvests and your daily visit earn season XP. Every 600 XP is a tier.
  • Free rewards at every tier: cash, points and three season items. The premium pass (300 points) adds a reward at every tier, including two mythics at tier 50, and pays back 300 points.
  • Season items are never sold in the shop. A leaderboard shows who is furthest along.

Improved

  • The style shop now changes every three days with four items, and the featured set every two weeks. Anything that leaves stays away for at least 18 days, and the catalog shows when each item was last seen.
Version 1.6.0

The style shop

Portrait pieces, weapon finishes and calling cards, with new stock every day.

New

  • The style shop: backdrops, shades, grills, chains and tattoos for your portrait, finishes for your weapon and calling cards for everyone you beat.
  • Eight new items every midnight, and a featured set each week sold as a bundle for less.
  • Send any item as a gift. Your wardrobe keeps everything you own; wear one piece per slot.

Improved

  • Nothing in the shop changes your stats. It only changes how the city sees you.
Version 1.5.0

Respected Mobster

A points subscription with double regeneration, bank interest and a gold name, plus name styles for everyone.

New

  • Respected Mobster: vitals come back twice as fast, your bank pays 2% a day on up to $5M, and your name shows in gold.
  • Respected Mobsters get a badge, a banner and a gold ring on their profile.
  • Name styles: colors, gradients, a neon glow and animated effects, bought with points and yours for good.
Version 1.4.0

A new front door

A new home page and sign-up, with your class picked before you start.

New

  • Mobster Story now runs on TBGS, the Text Based Game Script engine.

Improved

  • Signing up now walks you through your name, then your class, before you hit the streets.
  • A city bar along the top shows the date, the time in the city and the latest update.
Version 1.3.0

Houses and land

A bigger home for longer gym sessions, and acres to grow your own.

New

  • Nine homes from a rented room to a private estate. A bigger home raises your maximum awake.
  • Buy land by the acre, plant weed or shrooms, and harvest a day or so later.
Version 1.2.0

Drug running

Buy cheap in one district, sell dear in another, and keep your heat down.

New

  • Six drugs, five street markets. Prices change every hour and every trade moves them.
  • Heat builds while you carry. Get pulled over and you lose the drugs and the cash on you, and go to jail.
  • Rent a stash house to hold drugs without the heat. Cars carry more and draw a little less attention.

Balance changes

  • Street markets get deeper as more players deal, so busy routes still pay.
Version 1.1.0

The stock market opens

Eight companies, prices that move every 15 minutes, and a fee on every trade.

New

  • Buy and sell shares in eight city companies. Prices move every 15 minutes and react to the news.
  • Every trade pays a small fee, so quick flips lose money. Patience and timing win.
Version 1.0.0

Welcome to Mobster Story

The city opens its doors.

New

  • Five districts, each with its own store. Better gear is sold in higher districts.
  • Limited weapons: every capped weapon has a serial number. Sell one to a store and it's gone for good.
  • Cars and jets cut your travel time. Points skip the wait.
